Mystery of Past Lives Explained..

We have all lived in past lives, many lands and bodies. Their memories are stored within us. Just as childhood memories are stored in the subconscious mind, our past life memories are stored in unconscious mind.

Signs that you have lived before

You suddenly connect with a place, person or story. You have always loved history or a particular region, or its culture and cuisine. It feels familiar. I have been here before. Met the person before. Deja vu. You have a deep attraction or repulsion towards a person, which you cannot explain. You have recurrent nightmares or vivid dreams where you visit historic places or times and remember them. Unexplained or irrational fears, phobias or beliefs. You believe in the concept of soulmates, soul groups and soul families. You have recurring pattern or ailment in your life that you cannot overcome or explain.

Philosophy

Past Life Regression is based on Reincarnation or the transmigration of souls, and the mystical law of Karma, of action and reaction or simply put: As you sow, so shall you reap. That is why, nothing just happens; everything has a story behind it. Brihadaranyaka Upanishad composed about 700 BCE, has one of the earliest formulation of the Karma doctrine.

Now as a man is like this or like that,

according as he acts and according as he behaves, so will he be;

a man of good acts will become good, a man of bad acts, bad;

he became pure by pure deeds, bad by bad deeds;

And here they say that a person consists of desires,

and as is his desire, so is his will;

and as is his will, so is his deed;

and whatever deed he does, that he will reap.

— Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Hymns 4.4.5-4.4.6

“As a man himself sows, so he himself reaps; no man inherits the good or evil act of another man. The fruit is of the same quality as the action.”— Mahabharata, xii.291.22

वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय नवानि गृह्णाति नरोऽपराणि।

तथा शरीराणि विहाय जीर्णान्यन्यानि संयाति नवानि देही।।”

As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, similarly, the “soul” accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones.” – Bhagwad Gita. 2:22

That is the reason, our soul carries with it the memories of all the past lives it has lived. These memories are stored in the subconscious mind of a person and also reside in various parts of our body. These stored body memories like our karmas play out an important role in our life. Buddha also talked about Karma and karmaphala that fruit of karma, explaining how our intentional actions keep us tied to rebirth in samsara, whereas the Buddhist path, as exemplified in the Noble Eightfold Path, shows us the way out of samsara.

History of Past Life Regression

• Buddha ca 500BC, gave accounts of his various past lives in Jataka Tales also called जातक कथाएं, Jataka Kathayein.

• Ancient Greece had dream incubation centers, Egyptian Mystery schools also delved into regression. It was also practiced by advanced meditation teachers with select students in ancient India.

• Jain scriptures used the term ‘Jati Smaran’ past-life recall meditations, in which mantras were repeated to deepen.

Patañjali his Yoga Sutras, written during the 2nd century BC talked about the idea of the soul becoming burdened with an accumulation of impressions as part of the karma from previous lives. He called Past Life Regression ‘Prati-prasav‘ or reverse birthing.

In modern era, Sigmund Freud, first talked about Psychic determinism according to it, all mental processes are not spontaneous but are determined by the unconscious or pre-existing mental complexes. He also established that our past experiences determine our present behaviour.

• In 1950’s Stanislav Grof talked about deep breathing which could lead to past life or birth memories. A method, Paul Brunton also said was used by yogis of the past.

• Dr. Brian Weiss, author of “Many Lives, Many Masters “Through Time into Healing”, “Messages from Masters” and “Same Soul, Many Bodies” brought regression to popular culture.

No one gets away with anything. Our soul sees everything. Everything is balanced out eventually. Life finds its level. Constantly moves towards homeostasis.

Regression helps us become aware of the storyline we are stepping in, and growth curve our soul is on. Life changes when we do. What am I willing to do differently, this moment on?

Today as reincarnation research has become mainstream, Past Life Regression Therapy or PLRT often simply PLR is being extensively for healing unexplained, irrational fears, phobias. Disturbing and destructive self-beliefs or habits and addictions, entangled relationships or complicated family dynamics. Dis-ease for no reason, feeling lost, unworthy or lack of direction and purpose in life. Aliments with no medical cure or which keep returning. Repetitive life patterns or blocks you cannot understand. Or a childhood trauma, yet to be healed, which require age regression or regression into early memories of life, including those in the womb, to get in touch with some difficult-to-access aspects of their personality.

More than that, it can be an excellent tool for self-discovery, not just of present life-purpose, but also the trajectory of our lives. The wisdom we get to gain from those lifetimes can be then incorporated into our present choices.
