“Dreams are the guiding words of the soul. Why should I henceforth not love my dreams and not make their riddling images into objects of my daily consideration? “

– Carl Jung, The Red Book

Dreams are window in our soul. Dreams are the medium through which our Subconscious and Unconscious mind communicates with us. It brings up our shadows and traits that need to be healed and sometimes it also tells us also tells us what is in store for us, in the future. Warns us about things we are overlooking in our everyday life. Often when a past life is ready for healing, it surfaces in our dreamscape. Unresolved trauma, hidden secrets and passive side show up as well.

Every person has their own unique visual vocabulary, dream motifs to depict inner landscape and fears, emotions and yes shadows. That is the beauty and mysticism of dreams. It’s the language of the subconscious that our conscious mind reads and interprets according to its level of awareness.

However, the question remains why would the Subconscious and the Unconscious go to such elaborate lengths to show us something? The simple answer would be so that it can bypass our critical filters, we block ourselves from seeing or knowing our truth. Focussing largely on the ills of the world around and in people around us, thus missing the point. We suit our worldview to our ego and seldom with our soul. That is why, dreams can be a powerful medium to tune in to our Inner wisdom and bypass our ego blind spots.

What are Dreams?

“Dreams are impartial, spontaneous products of the unconscious psyche, outside the control of the will. They are pure nature; they show us the unvarnished, natural truth, and are therefore fitted, as nothing else is, to give us back an attitude that accords with our basic human nature when our consciousness has strayed too far from its foundations and run into an impasse.”

FORGOTTEN LANGUAGE? Dreams have been called the forgotten language of the Gods, who talk to us via symbols, archetypes, and metaphors of our dreams. In ancient Egypt and Greece, they built healing temples (Asclepeion), where people would go in induced sleep, and would wake up with a dream bearing a solution – divinely inspired incubating dreams. The temple priests thus became early dream interpreters. Native American mythology, folklore of almost every tradition, Mesopotamia, India, and China are filled with references to the symbolism and mystery of the dream world. Artists, painters and writers have used dreams for their inspiration for centuries.

In the modern era, the pioneering work of Sigmund Freud and Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung made dream work accessible to us. He showed that through dreams, the Unconscious mind can become an inner ally. In Dream Therapy, a therapist takes you into your dream, so you can access its wisdom, meaning and purpose.

Everyone dreams, but not everyone remembers them. The more we work with our Subconscious more active it becomes. If we follow the synchronicities, Signs, Symbols and Archetypes motif through our life, dreams can become a logical next step. Though there is nothing logical about dreams, they are abstract art of the soul, so it has to be seen thus. Seldom will it give literal representations of your inner life. Often, it uses symbolic or metaphoric images to guide us to a better life. There can be manifest content or latent content.

Repetitive Dreams: Many people see past-life glimpses in repetitive dreams, perhaps the message from the soul we are refusing to acknowledge. So it chooses dramatic imagery and scenes to get our attention. Often, when we get the message and follow the dream stops coming. Or in a Past Life Regression session, we explore the very past life and heal it.

Venting dreams: Daily Venting dreams are an essential part of mental house clearing, of “day residue” as Freud put it, each night. Such dreams mostly arise from the Subconscious Mind. They tell us what is going on inside our lives, emotionally – turmoil, pressures and general stresses. That is why sleep disorders are so difficult, as they disturb our REM periods. It is normal not to remember these venting dreams for forget quickly.

Guidance or Precognitive Dreams: Dreams can bear precognition messages and glimpses of upcoming events. Or warning signs about an impending event which the radars of psyche have picked u,p rising from the Unconscious, personal or collective. It is important to decode such dreams, rather than weed out the meaning.

Visitation Dreams: These usually occur after a death in the family, when a deceased loved one reaches out from the other side. They want to inform us that they are alright, as often the family left behind is apprehensive. Plus, it also helps bring them some closure and healing for the bereaved. Often, such dreams come to young children, as well as adults, as a result of deep grief and their subconscious mind is not ready or clear enough. Such dreams also come when we are going through a tough time, to assure us, comfort us or give us some direction, symbolically.

We believe Moon energies help us let go of old patterns or thoughts with its decreasing size and imbibe new things with its growing size. Thus, the waning moon (Krishna Paksha) phase gives venting dreams to people. And when it’s growing towards the full moon, waxing moon (Shukla Paksha), it gives premonition dreams. Or Intuitive dreams.

Dreams also reveal our Shadow worlds – our dark desires, our unhealed wound and our un-integrated or abandoned sub-personalities, so they can be used as a tool in Shadow Work.

“Once you understand symbolic things, you too will see symbols everywhere. ” – Joseph Campbell

Since Hypnosis gives us direct access to the Subconscious and the Unconscious, under able guidance, Dream Therapy can be an excellent tool to work through your dreams and access the Wisdom of your powerful Subconscious. Carl Jung called his method of going deep, ‘active imagination’, others call it introspective hypnotism. Dream Work can open up new frontiers of inner growth.

Dreams come from the Subconscious, so we access the Subconscious mind itself under Hypnosis and understand, heal and explore various interpretations of your dreams.

FAQs

Q. Does everyone dream? I don’t remember a thing!

A. Everyone dreams, especially “venting” dreams; they’re an essential part of our nightly mental housecleaning. Sleep disorders are difficult because they disrupt our REM periods. It’s normal not to remember these venting dreams—we’re meant to forget them. That’s okay.

Sometimes you don’t get to sleep that deeply (REM) to have meaningful or guidance dreams.

As a fun exercise, before bed, ask your spirit guides or your subconscious mind: “Guide me through my dreams.” If you’re confused or facing a predicament, pray: “Show me what I need to see.” If it’s important, they’ll show you. Keep a diary and pen by your bed and meditate briefly after waking. Otherwise, simply enjoy your night’s sleep!

Q. How do I know which interpretation is correct?

A. Online dictionary, experts, or Spiritguides can point towards a solution or interpretation. Be your best judge; whatever you feel guided to is your answer. An interpretation has to FEEL right to the dreamer. As it is the language of their subconscious mind, using their personal vocabulary.
